The End of an Era?
On April 27, 2005, the very first Airbus A380 took to the skies for its maiden flight from Toulouse, France, marking the beginning of a new chapter in commercial aviation.

Unlike the A380s that followed, MSN001 was never delivered to an airline. Registered F-WWOW, it has remained the property of Airbus, serving as a flying testbed for more than 21 years.
Throughout its career, this historic aircraft helped certify the A380, tested Rolls-Royce Trent XWB engines destined for the A350, and participated in sustainable aviation fuel testing, including a 2022 flight using 100% SAF in one engine.
After spending several years grounded, the aircraft returned to flying in March 2025 to support further A380 development and testing.
On October 28, 2026, F-WWOW completed another 1-hour-and-35-minute test flight from Toulouse. Rumors quickly spread that it was its final flight, but Airbus confirmed that the aircraft has NOT officially been retired and that its future remains under consideration.
Meanwhile, Airbus has acquired another A380, MSN114, formerly operated by Malaysia Airlines, which is being prepared as its next flying testbed for testing next-generation engine technology.
