Goldknopf Distances Himself From Top Aide Motty Babchik Amid United Torah Judaism Tensions

Agudas Yisroel chairman MK Yitzchok Goldknopf declared Sunday evening that his longtime associate Motty Babchik is no longer representing him, either in political activities or in briefings issued to the media, in a significant development amid growing internal tensions within United Torah Judaism.

The announcement came during a meeting of United Torah Judaism’s senior leadership, where party officials were discussing the need to maintain unity following the recent election results and ahead of anticipated coalition negotiations.

Goldknopf made clear that Babchik, who has long been regarded as one of his closest political aides, is not currently authorized to act or speak on his behalf. He emphasized that statements attributed to Babchik, as well as his political activities, should not be interpreted as reflecting Goldknopf’s positions.

The clarification followed remarks by United Torah Judaism chairman MK Yaakov Asher, who urged the party’s various factions to work together as a unified political force. Asher stressed the importance of cooperation among the different components of the party, particularly as discussions begin over its political direction and potential participation in a governing coalition.

Responding to Asher’s appeal, Goldknopf specifically addressed Babchik’s status, making clear that the political operative does not presently represent him.

MK Meir Porush welcomed the announcement, describing Goldknopf’s clarification as an important step toward restoring cooperation within the party.

“Your clarification is very important. We all want to work as one group and on the basis of agreements,” Porush said.

The exchange comes amid ongoing disagreements within United Torah Judaism following the elections, with senior figures seeking to establish a common approach to the upcoming coalition negotiations.

Goldknopf’s public distancing from Babchik is particularly noteworthy given the latter’s longstanding involvement in his political affairs and his prominent role in the party’s internal dealings.
