CVS Health Announces Major Plan to Split into Two Companies

CVS Health announced Wednesday that it plans to separate into two publicly traded companies by the first half of 2028, marking a major reversal of its $78 billion acquisition of Aetna in 2018. One company, CVS Pharmacy, will operate approximately 9,000 retail pharmacies and MinuteClinics, while the other, CVS Health, will retain Aetna insurance, Caremark pharmacy benefit management, and healthcare services. The move follows a strategic review and comes amid growing regulatory scrutiny of large healthcare conglomerates.
