Nurses Union Rally Planned Outside Lakewood’s Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus

The union representing nurses at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus plans to hold a rally in public areas surrounding the Lakewood campus this week, TLS has learned.

In a letter sent to neighboring business owners and residents, the hospital said the NJNU/CWA rally is planned for Wednesday, November 4, from 8:00 to 10:00 a.m., and may disrupt nearby businesses and traffic. Drivers are advised to allow additional time for travel during those hours.

Anyone with non-emergency safety concerns, or who is unable to access their property during the rally, should call the Lakewood Police Department at 732-363-0200, the hospital said. For emergencies, call 911.

As TLS previously reported, MMCSC nurses represented by NJNU/CWA on September 25 rejected a Memorandum of Agreement that their own negotiating committee had signed, and they have been working without a contract since the previous extension expired at midnight on September 30.

The union initially proposed resuming negotiations only on November 13, but at the urging of the Medical Center agreed this week to move that date up to November 6, the hospital said.

Patient care continues without interruption at both locations, with staffing, resources and operational plans in place to provide safe, high-quality care, the hospital said.

“We recognize the inconvenience this rally may cause and appreciate your patience and understanding as our valued neighbors,” wrote Dr. Philip Passes, Chief Administrative Officer of Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus.
