First Lady Melania Trump raised concerns with President Trump after several people she personally knew were deported under his administration’s immigration crackdown, according to The Wall Street Journal.

Trump subsequently told aides that White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, a key architect of the administration’s immigration policies, had gone too far. The report says Trump has alternated between demanding tougher immigration enforcement and privately questioning the severity of deportations.
