Orlando Airport Hosts First Flight From Nation’s First Airport Vertipad

Orlando International Airport and FDOT just completed Florida’s second “flying car” test flight using the nation’s first dedicated Vertipad at a commercial airport.

The Joby Aviation eVTOL took off and landed today at Vertipad Atlantis near Terminal C. Officials say the quiet electric aircraft is designed to eventually cut trips from the airport to theme parks from an hour on I-4 to just minutes in the air.

This is part of Florida’s Future of Flight Series. The first flight in the series earlier this week recreated the 1914 St. Petersburg-to-Tampa route that launched commercial aviation.

The Vertipad is currently for testing and demonstrations only. Airport and state leaders say it lays the groundwork for future air taxi service along the I-4 corridor.
