BRANDON, Fla. (VINnews) — A suspect is dead after an active threat prompted a massive law enforcement response Wednesday at a Citibank business campus in Brandon, Florida, outside Tampa, authorities said.

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office deployed deputies and SWAT teams to the sprawling corporate complex, where officers began clearing buildings and evacuating employees.

The sheriff’s office confirmed the response in a social media post, saying deputies were investigating an active threat and working to secure the buildings.

Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said authorities believed the incident was targeted and confirmed that the suspect was dead.

Television footage showed long lines of employees streaming out of the office buildings as law enforcement officers moved through the complex. Authorities urged motorists to avoid the area while the operation was underway.

The Citibank campus, located in suburban Tampa, consists of four three-story office buildings and employs thousands of workers, according to The Associated Press.

Authorities had not immediately confirmed whether anyone else was injured or released details about the suspect or a possible motive.
