Antigua and Barbuda: King Charles has described Britain’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade
Antigua and Barbuda: King Charles has described Britain’s involvement in the transatlantic slave trade as a “shameful chapter of history” that fills his heart with horror, during a speech opening the Commonwealth leaders’ summit.
The King stopped short of issuing a formal apology, despite growing calls from Caribbean nations for Britain to apologise and pay reparations.
Prime Minister Andy Burnham, who is also attending the summit, has said he is open to discussions about a formal apology but has ruled out financial reparations.
