Mayor Zohran Mamdani has ordered police brass and City Hall officials to come up with a policy change for the NYPD's Strategic Response Group

The scramble began after congresswoman-elect Darializa Avila Chevalier, whom Mamdani endorsed, called for the unit to be disbanded. "It wasn't really a priority," one source said. "It was on the backburner." An announcement is expected "pretty soon," possibly as early as next week.
