Town of Ramapo to Install Long-Awaited Lighting Beneath NYS Thruway Overpass on Saddle River Road Following Years of Safety Concerns
After years of concerns over the lack of lighting beneath the New York State Thruway overpass on Saddle River Road, between Old Nyack Turnpike and Park Avenue in Monsey, a long-awaited solution is finally on the way, thanks to the efforts of community activist Shimmy Singer and the cooperation of the Town of Ramapo.
The area beneath the Thruway overpass has remained without proper lighting for years, creating dangerous conditions for pedestrians walking through the heavily traveled roadway, particularly at night when visibility is extremely limited.
Recognizing the ongoing safety concerns, community activist Shimmy Singer worked to bring attention to the issue and pushed for a solution. His efforts, together with the assistance of Town of Ramapo Supervisor Michael Specht and Chief of Staff Mona Montal, have resulted in an agreement to install lighting beneath the overpass.
Under the arrangement, the Town of Ramapo will cover the electricity costs for the new lighting, which will be connected through the nearby Imrei Shefer Cheder.
Special appreciation goes to Imrei Shefer Cheder for generously agreeing to allow the electrical connection through its property, helping make this important safety improvement possible.
The project marks a welcome step toward improving pedestrian safety along Saddle River Road and addressing a longstanding concern for residents who regularly travel through the area.
