Port St. Lucie Streets Underwater After Heavy Rain

Aerial footage from Monday shows major roads across Port St. Lucie completely underwater after hours of torrential rain.

St. Lucie County declared a local state of emergency as flooding shut down streets and stranded vehicles.

Governor DeSantis later issued a state of emergency covering St. Lucie, Indian River, Martin and four other counties.

Officials are urging residents to stay off the roads unless travel is absolutely necessary. Multiple closures are in place, including California and Savona boulevards,
Port St. Lucie Boulevard at Aviation Avenue, and sections of Prima Vista Boulevard.

Port St. Lucie police say turn around, don’t drown. Even a few inches of moving water can trap a car.

A flash flood warning remained in effect for the city and surrounding areas
