Suspected Cyberattacks Hit Supermarket Freezers Across Europe

SUSPECTED CYBERATTACKS HIT SUPERMARKET FREEZERS ACROSS EUROPE — Refrigeration systems at supermarkets in Sweden and Belgium were disrupted overnight Sunday into Monday, in suspected cyberattacks that caused temperatures to soar as high as 50°C (122°F), spoiling large quantities of food. Affected chains include Sweden’s ICA and Coop, along with Delhaize, Carrefour and Spar in Belgium. The incidents resemble October’s cyberattacks on hundreds of French supermarkets involving refrigeration controllers made by Danfoss, which caused millions of euros in losses. Authorities are reportedly investigating, but no connection between the attacks has been confirmed, and the perpetrators remain unidentified.
