The major redesign of Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue has been completed
The major redesign of Bay Parkway and Cropsey Avenue has been completed, bringing new bus lanes and street safety improvements to two busy Brooklyn corridors.
The improvements are expected to benefit several bus routes, including the B6 and B82 local buses, as well as the X28 and X38 express routes. Before the project, buses on certain sections of Bay Parkway were moving as slowly as 3 miles per hour, causing significant delays for riders.
The corridors are used by approximately 35,000 bus riders, along with thousands of pedestrians, and run through the neighborhoods of Midwood, Bensonhurst and Bath Beach. The redesign was announced by Mayor Zohran Mamdani and NYC Department of Transportation Commissioner Mike Flynn.
The construction also raised a concern for Kohanim. Vaad Mishmeres Kehunah issued a warning about an ohel hatumah concern along Bay Parkway between McDonald Avenue and Avenue J, on the side heading toward Avenue J, opposite the Mobil gas station.
Changes to the traffic lanes had shifted the route previously used by Kohanim, while tree branches extending over graves at Washington Cemetery also overhang the roadway. The Vaad advised Kohanim to use an alternate route, whether traveling by foot, car or bus, while askanim worked with city officials to address the concern.
