FWC Airlifts Man Found Clinging To Palm Tree During Brevard Floods
A man was rescued by helicopter after being found desperately clinging to a palm tree, completely surrounded by floodwater in the Melbourne and Palm Bay area.
FWC crews pulled him to safety as part of more than 60 rescues they completed Monday after parts of Brevard County were hit with up to two feet of rain in less than 24 hours.
Overall, more than 100 people were rescued across the county as floodwaters trapped residents in homes and cars. Airboats were used in neighborhoods, schools closed, and a state of emergency is in effect.
Officials are urging people to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary as more rain bands continue moving through the area.
