Today in Aviation History โ November 2
On November 2, 1947, Howard Hughes personally piloted the massive Hughes H-4 Hercules, famously known as the โSpruce Goose,โ on its first and only flight.

Built almost entirely from birch wood, the giant aircraft carried 36 people aboard during its historic flight.
It reached approximately 70 feet (21 meters) above the water and flew one mile (1.6 km) in just 26 seconds.
Despite successfully flying, the aircraft never took off again.
The Spruce Goose remains one of the most legendary aircraft ever built.
