The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to intervene in the Trump administration’s effort to prevent California from counting mail-in ballots

The U.S. Supreme Court has declined to intervene in the Trump administration’s effort to prevent California from counting mail-in ballots from more than 20,000 registered voters federal officials allege are likely noncitizens, Reuters reports. The Justice Department sought to have the ballots set aside until voters’ citizenship could be verified. Lower courts had rejected the request, citing concerns about election disruption and potentially disenfranchising eligible voters ahead of Tuesday’s midterm elections.
