Miami-Dade voters reelected County Commissioner Vicki Lopez on Tuesday
Miami-Dade voters reelected County Commissioner Vicki Lopez on Tuesday, while voters in Miami and Miami Beach rejected two major real estate development proposals.

Lopez, a former Republican state lawmaker known for sponsoring Florida's Live Local Act and supporting condominium reforms following the Surfside condominium collapse, defeated challenger Rob Piper in the Miami-Dade District 5 runoff, receiving 60.6% of the vote to Piper's 39.4%.
In Miami, voters rejected a proposal to lease two public marinas on Virginia Key to a private development partnership. The measure was defeated 65.2% to 34.8%, according to unofficial results.
The proposal would have allowed developers to operate the Rickenbacker and Marine Stadium marinas under a long-term lease, raising concerns among opponents about privatizing public waterfront property.
Miami Beach voters also rejected a proposed $50 million expansion of the office building at 1691 Michigan Avenue, near Lincoln Road.
The proposal, backed by developer Robert Rivani, would have added approximately 47,000 square feet of office space and rooftop amenities while extending the property's city ground lease by an additional 40 years. About 64% of voters opposed the measure.
The results reflect voter resistance to the two major development proposals while Lopez secured another term representing District 5, which includes Miami Beach and surrounding communities.
