NYC Voters Approve All Five Ballot Proposals

New York City voters approved all five ballot proposals on Tuesday's ballot. The changes to the City Charter were drawn up by a commission picked by Mayor Mamdani, who says they will cut red tape.

The proposals make public hearings optional for sidewalk cafes and ramps, let DOT start bike and bus lane projects before going to community boards when it sees a risk of serious injury, create one online place to apply for building permits, change rules for city contracts, and set a goal of putting away at least 12% of the previous year's tax revenue in reserves.

The street-project measure passed with nearly 62% of the vote. Some neighborhood groups and Council members opposed it, saying it takes away the community's voice.
