Rockland Daily Exclusive: Legislator Joel Friedman Announces Additional Sidewalk Projects In Airmont

During Sunday’s exclusive interview with Rockland Daily, Rockland County Legislator Joel Friedman announced that additional sidewalk projects are moving forward in the Village of Airmont through the county’s broader sidewalk safety initiative.

The announcement came as Friedman discussed the recent completion of the Saddle River Road sidewalk project in neighboring Chestnut Ridge and what additional work is expected to follow under the same county funding program.

Friedman said new sidewalk work is planned along New County Road, from Route 59 toward South Monsey Road, as well as along the county-owned section of Cherry Lane beginning at Route 59.

Both roads are county routes, allowing the projects to move forward through the same county sidewalk funding initiative that helped fund the recently completed Saddle River Road project.

Friedman said the planning and paperwork for the Airmont projects are moving forward and that work is expected to begin soon. There is currently no set construction start date.

The projects are part of Rockland County’s $30 million countywide sidewalk safety initiative, which provides funding for sidewalk improvements along county roads throughout Rockland.
