New York Electric Bills Up $275 a Year, Report Says

New York households now face an estimated $275 more a year on their electric bills, an 11% jump, according to a new report by the Empire Center for Public Policy based on federal data.

That is the third-largest increase in the country and more than three times the national median of $82. New Yorkers now pay about 28.65 cents per kilowatt-hour, nearly 58% above the national average.

The report also found that heating a home with electricity costs far more than heating with natural gas.
