Claude can now analyze your spending with its new Personal Finance tool

๐จ AI update:
๐ฐ Claude can now read your bank & card accounts and tell you where the money went (Personal Finance)
New today (Nov 5) from Anthropic, the company that makes Claude.
โข Connect your bank and credit cards through Plaid (the same bank link many apps use). Claude doesn't see your bank password
โข Ask "Where did my money go this month?" and it adds up spending across all your accounts by category (rent, food, shoppingโฆ)
โข It flags problems: duplicate charges, surprise fees, bills that keep going up
โข Ask things like "Am I spending more than I earn?" or "Can I afford this?", or have it explain a term like APR and how much interest you paid this year
โข Read-only: it can't move, pay or invest your money. It sees up to 2 years of transactions (Anthropic, via TechCrunch)
โข Anthropic says Personal Finance chats aren't used to train its AI, and there are no ads or sponsored offers
Who / price: Anthropic. Beta for paid Claude plans (Pro, Max, Ultra) in the US, rolling out this week. Not on the free plan. ChatGPT added a similar tool in May.
How: in the Claude app or claude.ai, open Personal Finance and connect an account (if you don't see it yet, it's still rolling out)

โ Also new this afternoon, about the Google video model from noon: anyone with a Google account can now make 3 free 15-second AI videos a month in Google Vids โ vids.new (Google's blog)
๐ก Try: connect your business card and ask Claude "list every subscription and repeat charge I paid in the last 3 months, and which ones went up". Great for catching software and ad tools you forgot to cancel.
Anthropic announced Thursday that Claude is getting a new tool called โPersonal Finance,โ designed to help users keep track of their money. With it, users can connect their bank and credit card accounts through Plaid and ask Claude questions about their finances. Anthropic says access is read-only, meaning Personal Finance canโt move, manage, or invest usersโ money.
By letting Claude connect directly to bank and credit card accounts, Anthropic is positioning its chatbot as a financial companion that can help people understand their spending and make sense of their money, rather than simply offering them generic advice.
With the launch, Claude is playing catch-up to OpenAIโs ChatGPT, which introduced similar personal finance tools in May that also let users connect their financial accounts and ask questions about everything from spending patterns to long-term financial planning.
For instance, at the end of the month, a user could ask Claude, โWhere did my money go this month?โ The chatbot will then add up spending across the connected accounts and sort it by category, such as rent and utilities, food and drink, and shopping. Users can choose to go deeper by following up with questions like, โIs that more than usual?โ or โAnything else Iโm missing?โ
Anthropic says the tool goes beyond basic spending summaries by analyzing transactions across connected accounts to flag potential issues, such as duplicate charges, unexpected fees, and steadily increasing bills. Users can also ask broader questions about their finances, such as whether theyโre spending more than they earn. The tool can also explain financial concepts like APR (annual percentage rate), while providing calculations that show users how much theyโve paid in interest over the past year.
Of course, some people will have reservations about connecting their financial accounts to an AI chatbot. Anthropic says Claudeโs access is limited to each connected bankโs name, account name and type, the last four digits of the account number, balances, credit limits, and up to two years of transaction history.
Additionally, the company notes that when users chat with Claude in the Personal Finance hub, those conversations arenโt used to train its models.
Personal Finance starts rolling out in beta this week to users on the Pro, Max, and Ultra plans in the U.S.
The launch of the new tool comes as Anthropic has been expanding Claude into new verticals. For instance, Anthropic launched Claude for Legal and Claude for Financial Services earlier this year.
