New York City officials have issued more than 75 summonses and shut down three businesses following a citywide crackdown on stores selling illegal electric bikes and scooters. Inspectors visited 229 retail locations across the five boroughs between August 1 and September 20, identifying 136 violations involving unsafe or excessively powerful electric devices. Each summons carries a $1,000 fine. Authorities say enforcement efforts are aimed at preventing fires and protecting pedestrians and other road users.
