Shas Announces Support for Netanyahu to Form Next Government

The Shas Council of Torah Sages has decided to recommend Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to President Isaac Herzog as its candidate to form Israel’s next government, following Netanyahu’s renewed commitment to resolving the legal status of yeshiva students. In its statement, Shas also sharply criticized left-wing parties, accusing them of hypocrisy and of conducting an unprecedented campaign of persecution and incitement against the ultra-Orthodox community and Torah scholars. The decision comes ahead of presidential consultations beginning Wednesday.
