The independent body overseeing NYS education, the Board of Regents, struck a raw nerve when they abolished the requirement for Regents exams effective this year but has still not clarified what will replace it. Gov. Hochul, freshly off a decisive victory, is now talking about gaining more control of education. She’s concerned that the power of a diploma is weakening.
