Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi rebels have demanded $51 billion in compensation for years of Saudi airstrikes and blockade, along with official recognition as Yemen’s rulers, according to The Wall Street Journal. Saudi Arabia fears accepting the demands could encourage further attacks and financial demands. Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman is reportedly reluctant to negotiate without military gains but also fears that deploying additional ground troops could result in heavy casualties and domestic backlash.
