AAA Warns: Wet Leaves Can Be As Slippery As Ice

Wet leaves may look harmless, but driving over them can be like driving on ice.

Rain-soaked leaves can reduce tire traction and make it harder to stop safely. “Wet leaves can be just as slippery as ice, making it harder for drivers to maintain control of their vehicles and stop safely,” said Tracy Noble. “As fall weather brings more rain and leaves to the roadways, drivers should slow down, increase following distances and stay alert.”

For motorists dealing with rain and flooding in Lakewood and Jackson, the warning is another reason to take it slowly on leaf-covered roads.

AAA also warns drivers never to drive through flooded roads. Even shallow or moving water can be dangerous.
