Senator Jon Husted voiced confidence on NEWSMAX as Ohio voters chose between him and former Senator Sherrod Brown. A pre-election forecast narrowly favored Brown, but it was not a race call.
Republican Senator Jon Husted said he felt optimistic about his chances in Ohio's closely watched Senate election Tuesday, pointing to the energy he was seeing on the ground as voters went to the polls.
"I feel optimistic, we have a lot of energy out there on the ground," Husted said in an appearance on NEWSMAX's American Agenda. The network shared the interview on its X account Tuesday afternoon.
Husted faces former Democratic Senator Sherrod Brown in the special election for the seat previously held by Vice President JD Vance. Governor Mike DeWine appointed Husted to the Senate in 2025. The winner will serve the remainder of the term through January 2029.
A pre-election Decision Desk HQ forecast, last updated Monday at 3:03PM, rated the contest a toss-up while giving Brown a narrow edge: a 54% chance of winning compared with Husted's 46%. Those figures are model estimates, not vote totals or a declaration of a winner.
The contest is part of the wider battle for control of the Senate. Both parties have treated Ohio as a competitive race, with Husted seeking to keep the seat in Republican hands and Brown trying to return to the chamber after losing his previous seat in 2024.
Ohio polls close at 7:30PM Eastern. The NEWSMAX interview below captures Husted's Election Day outlook; confirmed results will come from the vote count, not the interview or pre-election forecasts.
