Yerushalayim Deputy Mayor Yossi Havilio has demanded that the city strip municipal benefits from Chareidim who do not enlist, including after-school and summer camp subsidies, scholarships and event discounts, and transfer the savings to a new fund for reservists and their families.

The letter to Mayor Moshe Lion said public money should not subsidize "those who flagrantly break the law." The move would have sweeping implications, as 46% of the city's Jews define themselves as Chareidim and 64% of Hebrew-language students attend Chareidi schools.
