Despite an executive order from Trump relaxing sanctions on Russian diesel oil to ease a price hike, Gov. Sherrill ordered NJ ports to not accept the fuel, claiming without offering a reason that the import “violates federal law” and “could carry serious civil and criminal consequences.” Congress passed a law in 2022 banning Russian oil, but presidents have power to issue a waiver.
